Today we remember those who died on 9/11. As we mourn those victims of terrorism, who died to preserve our freedom and way of life, let’s also recommit to our Constitution and democratic institutions by making a plan to vote in November — and by helping others prepare to vote!
At NCC, faculty and students can participate in the Civics Club’s “deliberative dialogues” on issues. This is a great way for students to earn the practices of political engagement and civil disagreement. The Civics Club will also be hosting voter registration drives. The NCC Civics Club has already won a bronze medal; let’s help the club get gold!

The All in Democracy Challenge is a non-partisan national organization that works to build political engagement across campuses. Its All in to Vote tool facilitates finding out if one is eligible to vote, registering to vote, checking one’s registration, and learning about federal, state, and local candidates based on one’s home address, etc.
Vote411 is also a national tool that can help anyone anywhere in the country learn about eligibility to vote, early voting, and absentee voting and registration deadlines; find out what and who is on the ballot, etc.
The New York State Board of Elections’ website allows one to register to vote, request a ballot, check election rights, deadlines for voting early, check one’s poll site, and more.
Worried that your registration — or a loved ones in another state — might be purged from voter registration lists? Flare.org has developed a tool so that you can be immediately alerted if your registration is purged. Here is a link to an article about Flare by the Shorenstein Center.
The Women’s League of Voters continues its historic work of expanding access and engagement in voting.
Finally, the NCCFT will be participating in a few phone-banking or canvassing efforts for local candidates who support unions and funding democracy’s incubator, public education. We hope members and retired members will consider joining us!
