LI Herald Covers Students, Faculty Speaking at Winter Luncheon

Our Annual NCCFT WInter Luncheon on Tuesday Dec. 17 was a unifying experience. If you were unable to attend, please read Charles Shaw’s article, “Nassau Community College Students, Faculty Protest Course Cuts” in the Long Island Herald, Dec. 17, 2024. Let’s move into the New Year united in our determination to turn this college around and placed back on the path to being a student-centric institution dedicated to providing genuine opportunity to all who pass through its doors.

  1. Much as I see the need for press to cover the situation, the timing of this couldn’t be worse for registration purposes. If students see this and decide we’re falling apart, they could look elsewhere. We don’t need students worried period, but especially not between semesters.

At the same time, if a senator was here and someone from the legislature, the talking points are fine, but they need to act. And SUNY needs to act which I thought our vote of no confidence was supposed to make happen. I am increasingly concerned that our efforts to get action will compromise Middle States or, more simply, make students reconsider attending.
